When I travel in the winter, I only think about going to warm island countries or Gangwon-do. Charlie asked me to go to Jeju Island this winter. I only went to Jeju Island in the summer, but it was my first time traveling to Jeju in the winter, so it felt a bit long. I can’t even go to the sea, so why bother..? But Charlie said that the winter trip to Jeju Island was real. It makes me wonder how great it is that they're talking so loudly about it. I booked a plane ticket that very day.

If you are someone who often travels to Jeju Island in the winter like Charlie, you cannot fail to know about the 1100 Hill Wetlands. It is a famous place for snow scenes in Jeju Island, but as it is a natural scenery, there are no operating hours or entrance fees. Instead, they say it's better to go when the sun is shining because it can be dangerous after a lot of snow has fallen. The downside is that the parking lot is very small, so if you visit leisurely, parking can be frustrating from the start of your trip to Jeju, so it's better to go early.
The 1100 Hill Wetland is actually a place you go to just to see the snowy scenery. So, if you arrive and there is snow piled up, it would be a waste of time, so you can search for the 1100 Hill Wetland on Naver Map and watch the CCTV to see what it looks like in real time. Fortunately, there was a lot of snow when we went, so we left early. Charlie, who said he had been to this place several times, skillfully brought me a hot pack and a warm drink and took me up 1,100m. On the way up, I saw the Baekrok statue and took a lot of pictures of the snow scenery.
Next is Dongbaek Forest, a place I visited during my winter trip to Jeju. During this season, there are always a lot of posts on Instagram saying ‘Why you should go to Jeju Island now’ and they always feature camellia flowers. Every time I see it, I think I should go see the camellia flowers too... Why did I doubt it when Charlie talked about a trip to Jeju Island in the winter? Haha. You have to pay the admission fee at the ticket booth, but they say there is an admission fee only during the camellia season. Instead, I think it's worth a visit because there are no holidays.
The entrance fee was 6,000 won per person, so it wasn't expensive. Looking at the red camellia flowers, I felt like I was in another country. It's still this cold... I thought it was possible for flowers to bloom like this. Since Dongbaek Forest is a cafe, you can also use the cafe. Since I paid the entrance fee, I didn't have to use the cafe, but since I was here, I took out some warm coffee and took lots of pictures at photo zones throughout the forest. Americano was 4,500 won per cup, so it wasn't expensive.
The only thing I asked for during my winter trip to Jeju Island was a tangerine picking experience. Charlie took me to the coveted farm, saying there was a good place to go. They say a cafe has recently opened, so you can have fun and relax. Perhaps because it is a cafe run by a tangerine farm, the menu was full of tangerines, including cafe lattes, milk tea, and sweets with tangerines. The tangerine experience was not too expensive at 10,000 won per person. Before picking tangerines, I received a thorough explanation from the owner and entered the farm wearing a cute tangerine hat that I had rented for free.
I grabbed the basket and scissors I received as I entered the farm and started picking tangerines. I picked a few tangerines and ate them on the spot, just like I saw on TV, and I think this was my first time seeing such delicious tangerines. Is this the taste of labor!? Even after filling up the basket, there was still time left for the experience, so I walked around with Charlie and took pictures. There were cute photo zones all over the place, so it was great to take pictures. The owner packs the tangerines that were filled in the basket separately. It was a truly unique winter trip to Jeju.
The last winter trip I visited Jeju Island was the Saryeoni Forest Trail. It is a forest road that runs from Bonggae-dong in Bijarim Forest to Sareri Oreum, and is a whopping 15km long. They say there are a variety of trees growing thickly along both sides of the forest road. At some point, Charlie started looking for trees like that haha;; Does looking at plants purify your mind? When I arrived using the navigation, it guided me towards the entrance to Red Oreum. It seemed like everyone was careful to park on the shoulder of the road. Admission to the forest path is free, so I went in lightly.
I walked slowly along the forest path, guided by Charlie's hand. The air definitely felt clearer because there were so many trees. She was a little worried when it came and went. It was cold. She was relieved when she asked people who had already completed one lap and was told that it would only take an hour. It was just a vague walk, but it was actually a better winter trip to Jeju. I was able to have deeper conversations with Charlie than I expected. If it's a trip to Jeju like this, I'll keep coming again and again.
It was the BEST 4 winter trip to Jeju Island that I took with Charlie so far. Traveling to Jeju even in winter was better than I thought. I feel a little offended to think that Charlie was the only one who went on such a nice winter trip to Jeju. Now that I know the taste of winter travel to Jeju, I want to go along.
